Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify all five activities and report several broad trends, including the film club’s slight dip and recovery, the decline in amateur dramatics, and table tennis’s strong late rise. However, the response is short of the required 150 words, and the overview is not sufficiently clear or accurate: calling the film club’s movement a fluctuation misses that it remains broadly stable, while saying martial arts “ends up on the same number” is imprecise (it begins at about 36 and ends at about 36). Some figures are also inaccurate, such as amateur dramatics falling from about 26 to 6 rather than 17 to 4. Develop the key comparisons more fully and check figures against the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction is followed by an overview and then comments on the activities. This makes the information reasonably easy to follow, and the use of “Overall” and “after 2010” helps signal relationships. However, the overview combines several separate trends in a long, crowded paragraph, and the final paragraph lists activities without a clear comparison between them. Repeated phrasing such as “number of participants” also makes the progression feel mechanical. Grouping the main trends—for example, stable or fluctuating activities versus those that rose or declined—and using clearer sentence boundaries would make the organisation more coherent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “participants,” “fluctuates,” “increased,” and “rose,” so the reader can understand the general trends. However, the range is limited and several phrases are unnatural or repetitive, particularly “started from 65 number of participants” and “rose up to 15 number of participants.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “droopped,” “Amatuer,” and “participnts,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for concise chart language and vary the verbs used to describe movement. For example, “began at,” “fell to,” “remained stable,” and “climbed to” are more natural choices in this context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response mainly uses simple present-tense statements and attempts to connect ideas with “and” and “after,” but the range of sentence structures is limited. Frequent errors affect accuracy, as in “the film club fluctuates and, started from 65” and “Martial arts go up and down every year started from 38.” These clauses need clearer grammatical links and consistent tense. There are also problems with articles, number expressions, and sentence construction in phrases such as “has 0 number of participants.” Use past-tense verbs consistently to describe the period, and practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “The figure began at about 36 and ended at a similar level.”
