Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and include several relevant trends, especially the decline in amateur dramatics and the strong rise in table tennis. However, the overview is partly inaccurate: it says all activities except amateur dramatics grew, although martial arts fluctuated and ended at its starting level. Some details are also misreported: table tennis had already risen to 20 by 2005 and reached 36 in 2015, rather than only boosting in 2010; musical performances began in 2010, not 2005. The film club’s leading position is correctly noted. To make the summary more complete and precise, compare the main series across the period and report key turning points accurately, including the film club’s broadly stable trend.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and a final paragraph of details. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within the overview is weakened by the long, loosely connected sentence beginning “Overall,” which combines several claims with “and” and “so.” The final paragraph also moves rapidly between activities, making comparisons difficult to follow. Some linking expressions, such as “while,” help connect information, but relationships are not always clear. Organise the details into clearer groups—for example, the relatively stable activities and those with major rises or falls—and use shorter sentences with explicit comparisons to create a more consistent progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “fall,” “continuously,” and “crossed the level,” and the reader can generally identify the activities being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning unclear. Examples include “the graph fluctuate the level,” “stop on same price,” and “achieved a remarkable goal,” which are not natural ways to describe data. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, such as “participent,” “apperents,” and “Melborne.” Use precise trend language such as “remained stable,” “declined steadily,” and “rose sharply,” and check spelling and the natural combinations of words before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a comparison joined with “while,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in phrases such as “the graph fluctuate” and “all other fields grow,” where the tense should reflect the period shown. Sentence construction is also faulty in “The martial arts apperents was just 36 and fall down,” and articles, plurals and punctuation are not consistently controlled. These problems sometimes make the intended meaning harder to follow, even though the main trends can usually be understood. Build accuracy with clear past-tense sentences, checking subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries; then add comparisons using controlled clauses rather than joining several ideas in one sentence.
