Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main contrast between the strong growth in table tennis and musical performances and the decline in amateur dramatics, and you note that film club remains the largest activity. However, some key details are inaccurate or incomplete: table tennis began at about 16 participants, not zero, and musical performances had no participants in 2000 and 2005, rather than only in 2005. The overview also says amateur dramatics fluctuated, although its overall pattern is a small early rise followed by a sustained decline. Film club and martial arts are not described with enough detail to show their changes across the period. More precise reporting of the starting and ending figures, alongside a clearer overview of the main trends, would make the summary more complete and accurate.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a concluding paragraph. It also groups related trends, particularly the rising activities and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the progression is not always clear. The overview repeats points that are then explained again, while the final sentence introduces film club and martial arts without supporting details. Connectors such as “Furthermore,” “Moreover,” “Nevertheless,” and “Additionally” are used frequently, sometimes making the relationships between ideas feel mechanical. The long sentence about amateur dramatics also contains several stages joined together, which makes the trend harder to follow. Organise the body by contrasting the main rising and falling activities, and use linking phrases only where they clarify the comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of trend vocabulary, including “dramatically increased,” “declining,” “fluctuating,” and “peak,” so the reader can generally understand the comparisons you intend. However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural for describing a graph. “The graph chart provides data based on” is redundant, “various tasks” does not accurately describe the activities, and “at a lower phase” is not a natural way to describe low participation. “The scale of this kept declining” also obscures the meaning. Repeated use of “participants” and “increased” limits flexibility. Choose concise, conventional reporting language such as “shows,” “activities,” “stood at,” and “fell steadily,” and use “number of participants” consistently when describing figures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “which,” “but,” and “although,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in sentence formation and agreement occur throughout. For example, “significant alterations caused in table tennis” is missing a suitable verb construction, while “both activity” should use a plural form. In “participants in amateur dramatics has been fluctuating,” the subject and verb do not agree, and “which was initially at a lower phase” has an unclear reference. Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent, particularly where sentences run together after full stops. Use shorter, controlled sentences for the data, check subject–verb agreement, and ensure each pronoun clearly refers to the activity or figure intended.
