Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies the chart’s general subject and mentions several activities, but it does not provide a reliable summary of the main trends or comparisons. Some details are inaccurate: musical performances begin in 2010, not 2005, and film-club participation is a number of people, not “64% goals.” The overview that film club is the leading activity is broadly supported, but the claim that musical performances are the smallest is only true at the end, not throughout the period. The other series are named without describing their changes. The response also contains 130 words, below the required 150, and the 16 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Include accurate key figures and explain the major rises and falls.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to organise the response into an opening, an overview and a final comment, which gives it some basic structure. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview combines several unclear claims, and the final sentence about the future is not relevant to summarising the period shown. Connections between ideas are limited; for example, “Other three participants as like…” does not clearly explain how the three activities compare. Use separate paragraphs for the introduction, overview and key details, then group related trends—for instance, the sharp rise in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. Clearer linking and reference would make the information easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “line graph,” “numbers,” “activity,” and “trend,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the range is repetitive and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. Phrases such as “claim 64% goals,” “achieve the 15% trend,” and “top trend activity” do not describe participation figures naturally. There are also spelling errors, including “participents” and “clum.” Choose precise terms for chart descriptions, such as “participants,” “rose,” “fell,” “remained stable,” and “reached.” Avoid adding percentages when the graph reports numbers of people, and use the activity names consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, and the reader can identify the general topic. However, errors in sentence structure and basic grammar are frequent enough to make several statements difficult to interpret. For example, “The line graph illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “He is start from 2005” has an incorrect verb form and unclear reference. “Overall, five numbers of activity…” is also not a complete, well-formed sentence, and punctuation spacing is inconsistent. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles and plural forms, and use past-tense verbs to describe the completed period. Short, complete sentences would help establish control before adding more complex structures.
