Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important features: film club remains the most popular activity, musical performances begin at zero, and table tennis rises markedly and overtakes martial arts by 2015. Most reported figures are broadly consistent with the chart, although film club starts at about 64 rather than 66, and the final table-tennis figure is about 54 rather than 56; these are small discrepancies. The main limitation is that the account is incomplete: the final sentence breaks off before giving the end point for amateur dramatics, and musical performances’ later growth is not described. The overview is relevant, but fuller coverage of the main trends and a complete ending are needed for a more fully developed summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to paragraphs describing the activities, and the comparison that table tennis overtakes martial arts gives the account a useful point of progression. Linking phrases such as “while” and “It was followed by” help connect information. However, the final paragraph ends mid-sentence, leaving the discussion of amateur dramatics unfinished and weakening the overall progression. Some transitions are also awkward: “while number of participants…” begins a new sentence with a lowercase letter, and the relationship between the table-tennis and amateur-dramatics trends could be made clearer. Use complete paragraphs and connect each activity’s trend explicitly to its time period.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “fluctuated,” “surpassed,” “peak,” and “dipping down,” which helps describe changes and comparisons. Some choices are imprecise or unnatural, however: “participating for various kinds of activities” would be more naturally expressed as “taking part in various activities,” while “highly participated activity” is not an idiomatic collocation. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “varous,” “begining,” and “paticipants,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise chart language such as “participant numbers,” “rose steadily,” and “declined,” and check spelling carefully. This would make the vocabulary more controlled and the trends easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “It was followed by martial arts, with almost 36 participants…” and the overview’s contrast between film club and musical performances. Some grammatical errors remain. The opening phrase “participating for” uses an incorrect preposition, and “while no one took part…” is not properly integrated after the lowercase “overall.” In “while number of participants…,” the article is missing, and the final sentence is incomplete, ending with “in.” These issues sometimes interrupt the reader’s understanding, although the main comparisons are generally recoverable. Build accuracy by checking sentence boundaries, articles, and complete clauses, while retaining the range of structures you are attempting.
