Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the five activities and give a broad account of several important patterns, including table tennis rising and amateur dramatics declining, while noting that musical performances had no participants at the start. However, some figures and comparisons are inaccurate: film club is about 66 in 2020, not 70, and musical performances are about 18, not 10. The claim that film club remained “stable” overlooks its rise after 2010, and the overview does not clearly summarise the main contrast between the consistently high film-club figures and the sharp growth in table tennis. The response addresses the task only partially because key trends are reported imprecisely and the overview is underdeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic sequence from an introduction to an overview and then a description of changes, so the reader can identify the general subject and some trends. However, the response does not progress clearly: the second paragraph combines several years and activities in one long sentence, making comparisons difficult to follow. Linking words such as “However,” “but,” and repeated “where” are used awkwardly or mechanically, and the final “Conclusion” repeats earlier points rather than adding a clear summary. Organise the report into distinct paragraphs for the overview and the main details, and group related trends together. Use precise links such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” to show how the series relate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “fluctuation,” “surged,” “reduced,” and “stable,” and these choices show an attempt to describe change rather than simply list figures. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “the graph have a data,” “the fluctuation was happen,” and “at high level.” Spelling errors in “perfomance,” “perffomance,” and “Amatueure” also reduce accuracy. Choose standard collocations for describing data and use a wider set of trend verbs accurately. For example, distinguish between a figure that “rose sharply,” one that “remained broadly stable,” and one that “declined steadily.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, but control is inconsistent and errors often make relationships between details unclear. Examples include “the graph have a data,” where subject–verb agreement and sentence construction are faulty, and “the fluctuation was happen,” which uses an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “In 2005 and 2010” also runs several clauses together without clear punctuation, while “Film club was 65% Martial arts was around 38%” lacks a clear grammatical link between the figures. Use complete, shorter sentences with accurate past-tense verbs and punctuation, then add a few controlled complex sentences using “while” or “whereas” for comparisons.
