Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main overall pattern: the film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises markedly, amateur dramatics declines, and musical performances grow from zero. You also make relevant comparisons, including table tennis becoming the second-largest activity by 2020. This covers the key features and supports a response at this level. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: table tennis began at about 16, not 26, and it did not drop in 2010; it stayed at around 20 between 2005 and 2010. Musical performances first appear in 2010, not after five years. To strengthen the report further, check each series against the graph and give a clearer, more precise overview of the contrasting trends.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and paragraphs describing the activities. The broad progression from the leading film club to the other trends is understandable, and linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “After that” help signal comparisons and sequence. However, the organisation within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several activities and time periods are combined, and some transitions do not accurately reflect the data. For example, the table-tennis account moves from an incorrect starting figure to a supposed decline before its rise. Grouping the two declining or stable series separately from the rising series, and using clearer references to years, would make the progression more coherent and cohesion less repetitive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “gradually,” “dipped,” “jumped,” “stable” and “ups and downs.” These choices show an attempt to vary the language rather than repeat “increase” and “decrease.” However, a limited range of expressions and noticeable word-choice, collocation and spelling errors reduce precision. Examples include “started way more higher,” “hit the lowest,” “marital arts” and “amateur dramaticts.” Some phrases, such as “started from almost the same year,” are also unclear for describing participant numbers. Build a reliable set of accurate trend phrases—such as “remained relatively stable,” “rose sharply” and “fell to a low of”—and check spelling and natural collocations before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the reader can generally identify the activities and trends you intend to describe. However, control of sentence structure and verb forms is inconsistent, and errors recur across the response. For example, “the number of Australians who are attend” has an incorrect verb construction, while “it was go up gradually” and “it increase slightly” use faulty verb forms. There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “the film club is started” and “The only activities that start with a grow and however ended uo with a fall.” Practise forming past-tense descriptions consistently and separating complete ideas into clear sentences; this will make your comparisons easier to understand.
