Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main categories and make some relevant comparisons, including film club’s leading position at the start and table tennis’s strong rise. However, several key details are inaccurate or unclear: film club remains broadly stable and ends at about 66, rather than reaching 69; table tennis reaches about 54, not 58; and musical performances first have participants in 2010, not 2005. The overview also misstates the trends, such as saying film club fluctuates upward without clearly describing its stability, and the final comparison does not explain that amateur dramatics falls sharply to the lowest figure. Focus on accurate trends and a clear overview, then support it with selected figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and it attempts to group information using phrases such as “In contrast” and “By 2020.” This gives it some organisation. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the middle paragraph repeats or contradicts information: martial arts is described as starting at 35% and then as beginning at 38%, while the timeline for musical performances is unclear. Several linking phrases do not show a clear relationship between ideas, and the final paragraph lists figures without consistently comparing them. Organise the details by clear trends—for example, stable/fluctuating activities versus those that rise or fall—and use references and transitions that make the sequence easy to track.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “participants,” “upward trend,” “declined,” and “surpassing,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning hard to interpret. For example, “stand on a highest position,” “grew up in 10%,” and “touch the 50% of total” are not natural ways to describe chart values. The repeated use of “percentage” is also unsuitable when the graph reports participant numbers, not proportions. Choose precise terms such as “number,” “figure,” “rose,” and “fell,” and check spelling and word forms, including “amateur” and “actively.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the response is divided into paragraphs, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes obscure the intended comparisons. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in examples such as “the number … stand” and “the figure were started.” Verb forms and tense are also unreliable: “They rised” and “it start in 2005” should use correctly formed past-tense verbs. Sentence boundaries and capitalisation need attention, as in “Overall, In 2000,” while some clauses are incomplete or awkwardly joined. Practise writing clear past-tense sentences with a subject, verb and accurate comparison, then check agreement, articles and punctuation. Greater control of these basic patterns would make your data descriptions much easier to understand.
