Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important patterns: film club remains the largest activity, musical performances rise from zero, amateur dramatics declines, and table tennis grows strongly. However, the overview is partly inaccurate: musical performances do not fluctuate; they increase steadily after 2005. The response also omits the film club’s broadly stable trend and gives limited precise comparisons. Some figures are misreported: table tennis is already 36 in 2015, rather than only becoming high in 2010, and its earlier values are 16 and 20, not generally 20–30. To strengthen the report, give a clear overview of the main contrasts and support it with accurate start-and-end figures for each key trend. (11 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.)
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to descriptions of the activities. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “As we can see” signal a shift to details. However, progression is not consistently clear: the final paragraph moves between martial arts, table tennis, and amateur dramatics, then repeats a comparison already made. Linking words such as “Whereas” are used repeatedly and sometimes connect ideas awkwardly. Grouping the stable activities together, then contrasting the rising and falling trends, would create a clearer sequence. Use references such as “this figure” only when their meaning is unmistakable.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “participants,” “fluctuate,” “decline,” and “interest,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts difficult to interpret. For example, “their account” is not a natural way to describe participant numbers, and “take hype” does not clearly express a rise. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “melbourn,” “amoung,” and “performence.” Aim for precise chart language and check spelling: describe figures as rising, falling, remaining stable, or reaching a particular level rather than using vague expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons introduced with “Whereas,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and sentence construction occur frequently: “musical performance acitivity have no participants” needs a singular subject with “has,” while “amateur dramatics initially participate are above 20” is not grammatically complete. The sentence beginning “In 2010 where two activities…” also lacks a clear grammatical structure, and punctuation is inconsistent, as in “while, table tennis.” These problems sometimes make relationships between ideas hard to follow. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build comparisons as complete sentences before adding linking clauses.
