Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several relevant patterns, including the film club’s consistently high participation, the rise in table tennis, and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, some figures and comparisons are inaccurate: table tennis is about 16 in 2000, 36 in 2015 and 54 in 2020, rather than 18, 48 and 52; film club rises only from about 64 to 66, not to 70. The overview also calls musical performances the least popular, although they finish above amateur dramatics, and says there were no musical performances until 2015, despite their appearance in 2010. The main trends are present, but the overview and reporting need more accurate selection and comparison of the data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing groups of activities. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within the body paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and the grouping does not consistently support comparisons across the years. Connectors such as “Moreover,” “Surprisingly,” and “Probing ahead” are used, but some feel mechanical or do not clearly show the relationship between the facts. The overview’s claim about the least popular activity also conflicts with the later figures. To improve, organise the details around contrasting trends—for example, the rising table-tennis figures against the fall in amateur dramatics—and use clear references to years and series.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fluctuation,” “increased,” “gradually,” and “rapid drop,” which helps describe changes over time. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, making parts of the report awkward: “participants performed in various activities,” “participants compete in table tennis,” and “the number of performs” do not express the intended meaning naturally. There is also repetition of “participants” and “number,” while “musical performance” and “musical field” are used inconsistently for the chart category. Aim for precise trend language and standard activity labels, such as “participated in,” “rose,” “fell,” and “musical performances.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, errors are frequent, particularly in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “participants performed” and “participants compete” use unsuitable verb forms, while “the participants was rose” combines incompatible structures. Agreement is also faulty in “the number of participants were increased,” and several sentences omit necessary articles or have awkward punctuation and spacing. These problems sometimes make the trend descriptions difficult to interpret. Practise forming accurate past-tense comparisons, such as “the figure rose from X to Y,” and check subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries before submitting.
