Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0

The response covers the main features and gives a clear overview: film club remains the largest activity, table tennis and musical performances rise, and amateur dramatics falls to the lowest level. It also supports these points with figures across the period. Most reported trends are accurate, but some values are noticeably understated: film club is about 60 in 2010 and 66 in 2020, rather than 58 and 63; table tennis reaches about 54, not 50; and amateur dramatics ends at around 6, not 3. These are minor inaccuracies within an otherwise well-developed summary. For greater precision, check the final and turning-point values against the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information is organised effectively, with an overview followed by paragraphs that compare the activities and trace their changes over time. The sequence is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In contrast,” and “by contrast” help signal comparisons. The separate treatment of table tennis and musical performances also makes their upward trends clear. However, some transitions and sentence boundaries are not fully controlled: “starting about 16” begins a sentence with a lowercase letter, and “2020.Martial art” lacks a space after the full stop. The paragraphing is appropriate, but proofreading these small presentation issues and varying transitions slightly would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

There is enough vocabulary to describe trends and comparisons, including “remained relatively stable,” “fluctuated slightly,” “rose modestly,” and “declined sharply.” These choices communicate the main patterns, and the writer attempts a range of trend language. However, several word-choice and spelling errors reduce precision: “dripping” is not suitable for a downward trend, “most powerful activity” is an unnatural description of participation, and “participant surged” uses the wrong form and collocation. There are also misspellings such as “Malbourne,” “noticable,” and “approximatly.” Use standard chart language consistently and check spelling; for example, “fell,” “most popular,” and “the number of participants surged” are more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex forms, including contrast clauses with “whereas” and “while,” and most sentences remain understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, but they rarely obscure the intended trends. Examples include the opening phrase “between 2000 to 2020,” the agreement error “musical performances shows,” and “It figures fluctuated,” where the possessive form is needed. There are also tense and sentence-boundary problems, such as “It begins” amid past-tense reporting and the lowercase “starting” after a full stop. Aim to maintain past tense throughout, check subject–verb agreement, and proofread punctuation and sentence starts.
