Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important features, including the strong rise in table tennis, the decline in amateur dramatics, and the film club’s consistently high participation. However, some key figures and comparisons are inaccurate or unclear: film club begins at about 64, not 76, and its highest value is around 66 in 2020, rather than being highest in 2005. The statement that amateur dramatics and table tennis were at a similar point in 2010 is also misleading (about 20 and 20), and the later figure of “5” for amateur dramatics should be about 6. The overview is relevant, but the report gives limited accurate detail about the series’ changes. Select the main trends and check each comparison against the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and further details, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Meanwhile” and “Additionally” help signal relationships. However, progression between details is not consistently clear. The discussion moves from film club to musical performances, then to amateur dramatics and table tennis, and back to film club, so related trends are separated. Some links are also confusing: “both opposed the trend of progress” does not clearly identify which activity rose or fell, and “at one similar point” is an awkward reference. Group the two declining or stable series separately from those that increased, and use clear comparisons within each paragraph. This would make the organisation more logical and reduce the need for repeated transition words.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “increased significantly,” “opposite trend,” “gradually increased” and “fluctuated,” which helps describe changes. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make parts difficult to interpret. Examples include “accounted the highest figures,” “showed no progress,” “opposesed the trend of progress,” and “the ratio of film club,” where “number” or “figure” is needed rather than “ratio.” There are also misspellings such as “soical,” “dramatices,” “Muscial” and “flucuated.” Use precise trend language consistently—for example, “remained stable,” “declined steadily” and “reached approximately”—and proofread spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a comparison with “while” and a result clause beginning “but after this year.” However, errors are frequent, and some sentence structures make the intended meaning hard to follow. For example, “Looking first at film club stood at 76” lacks a clear grammatical subject structure; write “Looking first at the film club, participation stood at…” The opening also needs “between 2000 and 2020,” not “between 2000 to 2020.” Other problems include missing articles in “at social centre,” the unclear construction “reached at 18,” and the run-on punctuation in “table tennis.Meanwhile.” Practise accurate sentence patterns for reporting figures, and check articles, prepositions, verb forms and sentence boundaries.
