Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several important patterns: film-club attendance dips before recovering, martial arts fluctuates, and amateur dramatics declines sharply. However, the response is incomplete and covers the chart only partially. The table-tennis account stops mid-sentence at “before the number dram”, and musical performances are mentioned only in the overview, with no supporting figures or trend details. Some reported figures are also inaccurate: amateur dramatics is about 26 in 2000 and 28 in 2005, rather than 27 and 29, and martial arts ranges roughly from 32 to 38, not 33 to 36. The response is one word below the required minimum. Complete the final comparison and support the overview with accurate key figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the activities. Time markers such as “In 2000” and “During the same period” help orient the reader, and the overview gives a useful broad comparison. However, the final paragraph is cut off at “before the number dram”, so the progression ends abruptly and the table-tennis trend cannot be followed. The body also moves between activities without fully completing each account, while musical performances receive no development after the overview. To improve the organisation, group related trends clearly and ensure each paragraph and sentence is complete before moving on.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “fluctuating”, “remained relatively stable”, “rose” and “dropped dramatically”, which helps communicate changes and comparisons. There is some variation in how participants are described, such as “individuals” and “people”. However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “approximatley”, “dramarics”, “marial”, “throughtout”, “amatour” and “approcimately”. Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural for a graph report: “dropped lightly” would be better expressed as “declined slightly”, and “doing musical performances” is less natural than “attending musical performances”. Aim for accurate spelling and consistent, precise descriptions of participation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including the comparison beginning “During the same period” and the sequence describing amateur dramatics. Most of the intended meaning is understandable, but grammatical control is uneven. The introduction is missing an article in “at local centre”, and the phrase “In 2000 there were around 17 table tennis player” has a number–noun agreement error. The final sentence is incomplete, ending with “before the number dram”, which prevents the relationship between the figures from being expressed. Review articles and plural forms, and check that every sentence has a complete clause. More accurate complex sentences would make the comparisons clearer.
