Student answer (Band 5.5)
The given line graph depict how many partispants for film club, material arts, amateur dramatics, table tennis and musical proformances at one centre in Melbourne, Australia for the period 2000 to 2020.
Overall, it can be clearly seen that highest number of participants do avtivities in film club, where as the opposite was true for musical performance in the examined years.
Looking at the graph in more detail, 65 participants do activities for the film club and participants remain constant over the period of years. 35 participants done material art and this figure witnessed a fluctuation trend. Table tennis was done by 19 participants in the initial year, although this trend experienced a continuous increase from 20 to 50 participants over the period of 10 years.
Quite the opposite, amateur dramatic was done by 27 participants in 2000, although it experienced a rapid decrease over the following years. No one has done the musical performance over the period of the first five years; however, this activity experienced a continuous increase in it by 10 to 20 participants over the period of ten years.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You provide a relevant overview by identifying the film club as the most popular activity and musical performances as the least popular at the start. You also select several important trends, including the decline in amateur dramatics and the rise in table tennis. This covers the main features, but some details are inaccurate or unclear: film-club participation did not remain constant, falling slightly before rising to about 66; table tennis rose from about 16 to 54, rather than from 19 to 50 over ten years; and musical performances began increasing in 2010, reaching about 18 by 2020. The overview also misses the striking rise of table tennis. More precise comparisons and a clearer account of the main changes would strengthen the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing details. This makes the information easy to locate, and linking phrases such as “Overall,” “Looking at the graph in more detail,” and “Quite the opposite” help signal the stages of the report. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is sometimes awkward. For example, the table-tennis sentence combines its starting figure with a rise “over the period of 10 years,” although the graph covers twenty years, making the timeline confusing. Some links, particularly “although” in the table-tennis and amateur-dramatics descriptions, do not express a clear contrast. Grouping the rising activities together and the declining or fluctuating ones together would make comparisons more coherent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fluctuation,” “rapid decrease,” and “continuous increase,” and the reader can generally understand which activities you are describing. However, the range and control are limited by repeated, unnatural phrases such as “participants do activities” and “was done by.” There are also noticeable spelling errors in key terms, including “partispants,” “material arts,” and “proformances,” which reduce precision. Some word choices do not describe the data accurately: “remain constant” is used for a line that changes, and “opposite” is not a clear way to introduce the amateur-dramatics trend. Use standard activity names and more precise trend language, such as “participation stood at,” “fluctuated,” and “rose steadily.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, for example the sentence beginning “No one has done the musical performance…; however…”. This gives the report some structural variety, but errors in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make parts awkward. In the opening, “The given line graph depict” needs subject–verb agreement (“depicts”), while “65 participants do activities” uses an unsuitable tense and construction for past data. “35 participants done” is also grammatically incomplete; use a past-tense reporting structure such as “There were about 35 participants.” Keep the reporting consistently in the past, and check agreement and clause links. More accurate control of these basic patterns would make your meaning clearer.
