Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main contrasting trends: table tennis rises substantially, while amateur dramatics declines, and you include several starting figures and some later values. However, the overview is brief and does not clearly summarise the full picture. For example, film club remains the largest activity overall, while musical performances begin at zero and increase; these important features are not clearly highlighted. Some details are also inaccurate or unclear: musical performances had zero participants in both 2000 and 2005, so they did not start in 2005, and table tennis reached about 54 in 2020 rather than showing a “huge fluctuated.” The final claim that participants were “interested” is not supported by the graph, which reports numbers, not reasons. Select and report the main trends more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic overall structure, moving from an introduction to a short overview and then year-specific details. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression is uneven: the long paragraph beginning “In 2000” combines several activities and years in one sentence, making comparisons difficult to follow. Linking expressions such as “then,” “after that,” and “finally” are repeated or used mechanically, and the final sentence introduces an unsupported conclusion rather than rounding off the data summary. Improve cohesion by grouping related trends—for example, the rising activities together and the declining or relatively stable ones separately—and use clear time markers and references so each sentence has one main focus.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of trend vocabulary, including “rose steadily,” “surged,” “plummeted,” and “declined,” which is appropriate for describing a line graph. Some choices, however, are inaccurate or unnatural: “huge fluctuated” does not describe a steady rise, “great interested” is not a suitable way to report participant numbers, and “remained consistent” is less precise than saying a figure stayed broadly stable. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, such as “increceased,” “conisitent,” and “dramatics” when referring to the activity. These do not make the response impossible to understand, but they reduce precision. Build a reliable set of trend collocations and check spelling and forms before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use some simple clauses and attempt longer sentences to connect changes over time, but the longer constructions are often difficult to control. Errors occur in sentence structure and verb forms, as in “As we can seen that” and “the table tennis participants was increased.” Articles and plurals are also inconsistent in phrases such as “in social centre” and “the participants activities.” The sentence beginning “In 2005 musical performance…” contains several clauses joined without clear grammatical boundaries, which makes the sequence hard to follow. Use shorter, complete sentences, and practise accurate past-tense reporting patterns such as “the number of participants rose” and “the figure remained stable.” This would make your comparisons clearer while retaining some sentence variety.
