Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the chart’s subject and period, and you attempt an overview by mentioning the film club, martial arts and musical performances. However, the overview contains a major reversal: amateur dramatics fell sharply, from about 26 to 6, rather than showing a dramatic increase. The response also stops partway through the 2005 description, so it does not report the main developments across the full period or compare the activities adequately. The film club was broadly stable, while table tennis rose markedly and musical performances began in 2010; these important features are missing. The response is also 43 words below the required minimum, leaving the task substantially incomplete. Develop a complete overview and support it with accurate figures from the start, middle and end of the period.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and a detail paragraph, which gives the reader some sense of structure. However, the progression is not sustained: the final paragraph begins with 2000 and moves to 2005, then ends abruptly before the remaining years or activities are covered. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “However,” and “Furthermore” are used, but some do not create a clear relationship between the ideas; for example, “A further” is awkward, and the contrast involving amateur dramatics and table tennis is difficult to follow. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the overview and comparisons, and connect each detail clearly to the relevant year and trend.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some suitable chart vocabulary, including “illustrates,” “fluctuated,” “approximately,” and “notable growth,” and the general topic is understandable. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward. “Remained unchanged” does not precisely describe the film club, which dipped and then rose slightly; “dramatic increase” also misreports amateur dramatics’ decline. Phrases such as “65 number of participants,” “showed opposite to it,” and “at the end of the year” are not natural ways to describe these data. There are also spelling errors, including “recieved.” Build a more precise set of trend expressions and check spelling and collocations so that vocabulary communicates the chart accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes some simple sentences and attempts more complex structures, such as “while martial arts slightly fluctuated” and “which showed opposite to it.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and the limited sample contains errors that make some sentences difficult to read. The opening needs an article before “social centre,” and “A further, amateur dramatics showed…” has faulty sentence construction. In “compared to around 38 in martial arts,” the comparison is incomplete, while “stood at approximately at 26” repeats the preposition. The final sentence is unfinished after “slightly decline to 63,” and punctuation is missing between “it” and “Musical.” Practise complete, well-formed comparisons and check articles, verb forms, prepositions and sentence boundaries.
