Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main series and report several relevant comparisons, including the film club’s consistently high participation, table tennis’s strong rise, and amateur dramatics’ decline. Most figures are close to the chart, such as film club at about 64 in 2000 and 66 in 2020, and table tennis reaching roughly 54. However, the overview misstates key trends: amateur dramatics did not level off at the end; it continued falling to about 6. Musical performances reached around 18 in 2020, not 27, and the overview says there are six activities although the graph shows five. The response covers the task, but some important features are inaccurate or insufficiently developed. Make the overview more precise and check each reported endpoint against the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs grouping the activities. This makes the information reasonably easy to follow, and transitions such as “Meanwhile” and “After this period” help signal comparisons and changes. However, some links are unclear or mechanically repeated, particularly the repeated use of “Meanwhile.” The sentence beginning “The table tennis and amateur dramatics…” combines two trends in a confusing way, and “had the same number of participant 20 member in 2010” does not clearly show which activity the figure refers to. Improve progression by describing each series’ change in a consistent order and using clearer references, rather than joining several comparisons into one sentence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of trend vocabulary, including “fluctuating,” “gradual increase,” “peaked,” and “levelled off,” which helps communicate changes in the graph. Some choices, however, are imprecise or do not fit the data: “peaked out” is awkward here, and “levelled off” incorrectly describes amateur dramatics’ continuing decline. There are also spelling and word-form errors, such as “Initiatlly,” “partcipant,” and “members amounting,” alongside unnatural phrases like “the highest from any other activity.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the general message, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Choose standard collocations for describing figures and trends, and proofread spelling and plural forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses linked with “while” and “after this period,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, especially in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “depicts that how many participants engaged” has an incorrect clause pattern, while “members … remain steady” and “table tennis faced an gradual increase” contain tense or article problems. In “the same amount it had on 2000,” the preposition and structure are also inaccurate. These errors rarely block the main message, but they make several sentences less controlled. Practise consistent past-tense reporting and check subject–verb agreement and article use.
