Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart’s general subject and mention all five activities, so the response is relevant to the task. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately summarise the main patterns: saying musical performances were lowest in 2005 overlooks that they remained at zero in 2000 and 2005, while “highest in year 2020 at 60” misstates table tennis, which reaches about 54, and film club, which is about 66. Several descriptions are too vague to report the data reliably, such as “average at 20” and “it reached at 2020.” The trends in amateur dramatics and martial arts are only partly described. To improve, give a clear overview of the strongest rises and falls, then support it with accurate comparisons and selected figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to descriptions of the activities. It also attempts sequencing with phrases such as “Overall,” “At the second,” and “At the last.” However, the information is not arranged coherently enough for the reader to follow: “At the second” does not identify the activity, and the final paragraph shifts between amateur dramatics, martial arts and film club without clear separation. Some references, including “it” and “the second,” are difficult to interpret. Organise the body into logical groups, name each activity when changing topic, and use clear time comparisons such as “from 2000 to 2020” rather than relying on unclear references.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “participants,” “decreased,” and “increased,” and the activity names help keep the response connected to the chart. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, which makes the data difficult to understand. For example, “has average number of participated” does not clearly describe the film-club figures, while “it start slowly inreased” is not an effective way to report a trend. Spelling errors such as “inreased” also reduce accuracy. Build a small set of precise chart expressions and use them consistently, for example “remained stable,” “rose sharply,” and “fell to around six participants.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the opening sentence communicates the chart’s general topic. However, grammatical errors are frequent, and sentence structures are often incomplete or difficult to follow. Examples include “The given below chart gives the information number” and “in year 2005 musical performances started in 2010 it reached 10,” where missing articles, prepositions and sentence boundaries obscure the meaning. Verb forms and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “it start” and “it start slowly.” Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, check articles and tense, and separate each time period or trend with appropriate punctuation. Short, accurate comparisons are a useful starting point.
