Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response identifies several relevant series and includes an overview, but the main features are not reported accurately enough. The overview says most categories increased and that Film Club had the most significant rise; in fact, table tennis rose most sharply, while film-club numbers changed only slightly overall. Several figures are also substantially misread: martial arts ends at about 36, not 48, and its early movement is not a rise from 36 to 40; table tennis reaches about 54, while musical performances rise from zero in 2005 to about 18 in 2020. The decline in amateur dramatics is correctly recognised. To improve, compare the main trends accurately and select key figures that support a clear overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing the data. Time markers such as “At the beginning of the period” and “In the later years” help the reader follow the sequence. However, the progression is weakened by inaccurate or unclear links between ideas. For example, “Similarly” introduces a martial-arts trend that is not similar to the preceding film-club trend, and “In contrast” does not clearly establish what is being contrasted. The final paragraph combines several series in a long, confusing sentence. Grouping the stable series together and the sharply changing series together, while using precise comparisons, would make the organisation more coherent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

There is some relevant vocabulary for describing graphs, including “steady,” “peak,” “declined,” and “sharply decreased.” These choices show an attempt to vary the language rather than repeat “increased” throughout. However, word choice, spelling, and collocation errors are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “Amatour tennis” (which also confuses the activity label), “Table lennis,” “surge” for a fall from 64 to 60, and “players” or “members” where “participants” would be more suitable. “Increased trend can be occurred” is also an unnatural expression. Use accurate activity names and conventional trend phrases, such as “the number rose gradually” or “fell steadily.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including contrast clauses beginning with “In contrast” and “However.” However, errors occur frequently, and some sentences are difficult to interpret. For example, “increasing trend can be occurred” has an incorrect verb construction, while “36 to 40 people participanting in this activities” contains problems with verb form, agreement, and number. The sentence beginning “By the end of the period” also lacks a clear grammatical structure: “Amateur sharply decreased remained at only 5 members.” Articles and plural forms are inconsistent, as in “60 person” and “48 person.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build shorter, complete sentences before adding complex clauses.
