Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify all five activities and report several important patterns, especially the sharp rise in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, some figures and trends are inaccurate: martial arts reaches about 38 in 2010, not 40, and fluctuates around the mid-30s rather than falling to 30 and then remaining steady. Film club participation is broadly stable, but it dips before rising to about 66, so saying it “remain[s] same” misses this movement. The overview repeats the task description instead of summarising the main contrasts. To strengthen the response, give a concise overview of the leading, rising and declining activities, then support it with accurate comparisons across the period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable introduction, overview and two body paragraphs, and the body paragraphs group activities in a generally sensible way. Linking phrases such as “In contrast” and “In comparison” also show an attempt to connect information. However, the overview mainly lists the activities rather than guiding the reader through the main trends, so the progression is not clear from the start. Some connections are awkward or inaccurate, including “In the other three activities” and “and then from then it is steady.” The paragraphing labels are not a substitute for clear development. Organise the report around the major patterns—stable/high participation, strong growth, and decline—and use precise links between comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “participants,” “rises,” “fall down,” and “reached,” which helps communicate basic trends. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make parts difficult to read: “take part insocial activities,” “looking favouite,” and “not really develope” are examples. Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “taking interested” and “not looking intersting.” Aim for accurate trend language and standard spelling, and avoid describing the graph as “estimate” when it shows participant numbers. More precise choices such as “remained relatively stable,” “increased sharply,” and “declined steadily” would make comparisons clearer and more appropriate for an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, but grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “The graph illustrate numbers” has subject–verb disagreement and missing articles, while “film club activities is looking” has agreement and sentence-pattern problems. Verb forms are also inconsistent in “it rises and in 2020 participants incrases,” and the sentence beginning “In the other three activities” is difficult to construct clearly. Punctuation and spacing are uneven, particularly around parenthetical dates and sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate basic sentences first, then add subordinate clauses for comparisons. Check subject–verb agreement, articles, and consistent past-tense reporting of the historical data.
