Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important patterns: the film club remains the most popular, table tennis rises strongly, and amateur dramatics declines. However, the overview is partly inaccurate: musical performances are the lowest only at the beginning; by 2020 amateur dramatics has the fewest participants. Some figures are also too vague to show the scale of change, and the claim that table tennis rose after 2010 overlooks its earlier increase from 16 to 20. The response contains 130 words, below the 150-word minimum, so it has limited space to report and compare the data. To strengthen the summary, give a more precise overview and include key start and end figures for the main trends.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs. Linking phrases such as “To begin with” and “In terms of” help signal the shift between activities. However, the progression is not always clear: film club and martial arts are grouped together without a direct comparison, while table tennis and musical performances are separated despite both increasing. “Whereas” begins a fragment-like contrast, and repeated references to the social centre make the writing feel repetitive rather than cohesive. Organise the details by trend—for example, stable or fluctuating activities versus rising and falling ones—and use clear comparisons to guide the reader through the graph.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “participants,” “declined sharply,” and “increased,” so the main trends are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate: “surgically rose” does not describe a graph trend, and “reported as highest number” is not a natural way to express the comparison. Phrases such as “showed lowest interest” also describe interest rather than the number of participants. There are spelling and word-form problems, including “habing” and “joinned,” which reduce precision. Use standard data-reporting language consistently, such as “stood at,” “rose to,” “fell to,” and “the highest figure.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some complex structures, including “In terms of amateur dramatics trend was rather different as it declined sharply,” but control is uneven and many sentences contain grammatical errors. For example, “film club reported as highest number” is missing a suitable verb construction, while “Whereas, musical performances showed lowest interest” is not a complete, well-formed contrast. Articles and sentence structure are also problematic in “in martial arts showed in 30-40 number of participants.” The final sentence has an unclear relative clause and faulty verb forms. These errors sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Practise complete sentences with accurate subjects and verbs, and use simpler structures reliably before adding subordinate clauses.
