Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several relevant patterns, including the film club’s relative stability, the sharp rise in table tennis, and the decline in amateur dramatics. You also note that musical performances begin after 2005 and that table tennis and martial arts meet in 2015. However, the overview is unclear and some details are inaccurate: the period is 2000–2020, not “2000 to 2005”; table tennis rises from about 16 to 54 rather than remaining unchanged until 2010; and musical performances increase gradually to about 18, not 15. The claim that table tennis and amateur dramatics are the same in 2010 is also incorrect. Select the main trends accurately and support them with clearer comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic overall shape: an introduction, an attempted overview, and details about the activities. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is difficult to follow because several trends are crowded into long sentences, and the overview does not clearly distinguish the most important features. Connectors such as “On the other hand,” “meanwhile,” and “other then that” are sometimes awkward or do not show the relationship between ideas accurately. The final sentence adds comparisons without explaining them clearly. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and key details, group related trends, and use linking phrases only when their logical function is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “participants,” “increased,” “decreased,” and “subtle shifts,” so the reader can recognise the general subject and direction of change. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “a clear dump” for a decline, “no performer take part,” and “shows a smaller ups and downs.” Spelling errors, including “ceenter,” “apprximately,” and “wheras,” also reduce clarity. Aim for precise chart language and check spelling: for example, use “fell steadily” for the amateur dramatics trend and “fluctuated slightly” for martial arts. Avoid repeating general words such as “change” and “increase” when a more exact description is available.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas using clauses, for example, “after that number of participants sharply increased,” but sentence structures are often faulty, and errors sometimes make relationships difficult to understand. Examples include “film club approximately remains consistent,” “table tennis were fifteen,” and “there is no performer take part.” Tense and agreement are inconsistent, and articles and sentence boundaries are often missing. Several sentences run together without clear punctuation, particularly the overview and the final comparison. Practise accurate past-tense reporting, subject–verb agreement, and complete sentence patterns: “The number for table tennis was about 16” and “No one participated in musical performances in 2000 or 2005.” Use a few well-controlled complex sentences rather than joining many points together.
