Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response identifies several relevant series and broad trends, including table tennis rising substantially, amateur dramatics declining, and film club remaining the most popular. However, the task is addressed only minimally: there is no clear overview of the main comparisons, and several details are inaccurate or unclear. Table tennis began at about 16 participants, not as an activity that was “not well known,” and musical performances first appeared in 2010, not 2005. Film club rose from roughly 64 to 66, rather than “65% to 68%”; the graph shows participant numbers, not percentages. The response also falls seven words short of the required minimum. Include a concise overview and report the key figures accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has some basic organisation: it moves through table tennis and amateur dramatics, then film club and martial arts, and finally musical performances. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “However” show an attempt to connect ideas. Nevertheless, the progression is not consistently clear, and the response lacks a distinct overview or well-shaped paragraph structure. Some connections are difficult to follow, particularly “by the time in 2020” and “therefore, by the time pass it went to 19%.” Grouping the main trends into paragraphs and using clear time references would improve the flow. Make sure each comparison directly relates the activities or years being discussed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “participants,” “trend,” “popular,” and “attention,” so the reader can identify the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning unclear. For example, “55% hype” does not describe a participant figure, and “graps its attention” is not a natural way to report a rise. “Martical” and “intrested” also show spelling errors. Prefer precise chart language such as “number of participants,” “increased,” “declined,” and “remained relatively stable.” Avoid describing popularity or awareness unless the graph provides evidence for those claims.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentences and uses past-tense reporting, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors can make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. Examples include “It express,” “the trend goes changes,” and “martical arts was remain,” where verb forms or agreement are faulty. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in “one of the social centre” and “Film club is the highest activity shown in the trend this activity was well known.” Use a consistent past tense for the period and check subject–verb agreement. Shorter, complete sentences would help establish accurate patterns before you attempt more complex comparisons.
