Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the film club as the leading activity and note that musical performances were absent at the start, while also mentioning the rise of table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the report only partially covers the main trends and contains important inaccuracies: film-club participation stayed around 60–66 people, not 65%, and table tennis rose from about 16 to 54 by 2020, not to 55 in 2015. The claim that film club remained “around 60” overlooks its later increase, and the comparison between amateur dramatics and musical performances is not clearly supported. Include a concise overview of the contrasting trends and report key figures accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction and overview to two detail paragraphs, and phrases such as “To begin with” and “Additionally” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear: the overview combines several points without explaining their significance, and the final paragraph introduces a comparison that is difficult to follow. Linking is sometimes mechanical, while “Generally” and “The another changes” do not create clear connections. Organise the details by trend—for example, stable or fluctuating activities, rising participation, and declining participation—and use clear references and transitions so each paragraph develops one main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant activity vocabulary, including “participants,” “popular,” “overtook,” and “participated,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “population of participants,” “widely accepted activity,” and “second well known activity.” Repeated use of “activity” and “popular” also makes the description less precise. There are noticeable spelling errors, including “flim,” “activiy,” “tennies,” “arounf,” and “muscial,” which can distract the reader. Use standard chart language such as “number of participants,” “most popular,” “participation rose,” and “fell to” to describe the data more accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, including a contrast introduced by “although” and a comparison using “but.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to interpret. For example, “The given line graph illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the musical performances wasn’t” has incorrect agreement. The sentence beginning “Generally, martial arts…” contains a faulty construction (“but the it was overtook”), and “The another changes…” is not grammatically well formed. Articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries also need attention. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses to describe changes over time.
