Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You provide a relevant overview, identifying the film club as consistently the most popular activity, table tennis as a strong growth area, and amateur dramatics as declining. Several key figures are also reported accurately, including the film club’s fall to about 60 in 2010 and recovery to around 65 by 2020, and amateur dramatics ending at roughly six. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: amateur dramatics began at about 26, not 18, and musical performances rose gradually from zero to around 18 rather than showing a significant rise to 20. The table-tennis description also misses its approximate final figure of 54. More precise reporting of these trends and values would make the coverage more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing the activities. The overview helps the reader identify the main trends, and phrases such as “In contrast” signal comparisons. However, some sentences combine several points without clear relationships, particularly the table-tennis sentence, which says it “had rise significantly” and then refers to stability before a further rise. The final paragraph also moves between amateur dramatics and musical performances without a clear transition. Use one focused sentence for each activity or group of related trends, and make comparisons explicit. This would improve progression and make the connections between figures easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of trend vocabulary, including “remained relatively stable,” “declined drastically,” “recovering,” and “significant growth.” These choices help communicate the main movements in the graph. However, spelling errors such as “praticipating,” “Melbourme,” “flim,” and “partcipants” are noticeable, and some expressions are not natural or precise, including “had rise significantly” and “shown significant rise.” Repetition of “significant” also limits variety. Aim for accurate spelling and conventional collocations for describing data, such as “rose sharply,” “increased steadily,” or “fluctuated around.” More precise vocabulary would make the account clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast in the overview and clauses beginning “before” and “whereas.” However, errors in verb forms and sentence construction occur in several places. For example, “participation in amateur dramatics decline” needs a past-tense verb, while “Table tennis had rise significantly” requires “rose” or “experienced a rise.” The sentence “Martial arts had approximately 37 participants had fluctuations” contains an incomplete connection between its clauses. Missing articles and punctuation also affect accuracy, as in “making it more popular activity” and the frequent lack of spaces after commas. Check tense consistency when describing the 2000–2020 period and build each sentence around a clear subject and verb.
