Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main overall pattern that the film club remained the most popular activity and amateur dramatics declined, and you note that martial arts changed relatively little. However, the account is incomplete and some details are inaccurate or unclear. Musical performances began in 2010, not 2005, and table tennis rose substantially to about 54 participants by 2020, a major feature that is omitted. The final paragraph also repeats the 2015 table-tennis figure as if it were a later endpoint and gives conflicting figures for amateur dramatics. To strengthen the response, report the full 2000–2020 trends and make the key comparisons clear, especially the sharp rise in table tennis and the emergence of musical performances.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, so the reader can identify the intended stages of the report. However, progression is weakened by unclear sequencing and repetition. For example, the paragraph beginning “In 2010” later says “By 2010” before describing table tennis reaching 38, although that figure corresponds to 2015. The final paragraph also revisits earlier dates without clearly moving forward to 2020. Some linking phrases, such as “as followed by” and “in contrast,” do not make the relationships between figures clear. Organise the details chronologically, use one paragraph for earlier years and another for later years, and ensure each comparison refers to the correct date.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “decreased,” “increased,” “remain almost constant” and “significant growth.” This gives the response a basic range suited to the task. However, word choice and spelling errors are noticeable and sometimes make the data difficult to interpret. Examples include “good number of people,” “least number people,” “reached at,” and “start after 2000 in 2005”; “18%” is also inappropriate because the graph reports participant numbers, not percentages. Several activity names are misspelled, including “matrial” and “perfomance.” Use precise terms such as “participant total,” “fell to,” and “rose to,” and check spelling and whether a figure is a count or a percentage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, including comparisons introduced by “as compared to” and “in contrast.” However, grammatical errors occur frequently, and some sentences are difficult to follow. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “Film club have highest number” and “table tennis show significant growth”; articles and sentence structure are also problematic in “reached at same number.” The sentence about musical performances beginning after 2000 is especially unclear because its time reference is not expressed accurately. Punctuation and spacing around commas are inconsistent, and several sentences lack clear grammatical connections between clauses. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and basic sentence patterns, for example, “The film club had the highest total, at about 64 participants in 2000.”
