Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall patterns: table-tennis participation rises sharply, amateur dramatics declines, and film club and martial arts remain broadly stable. You also include several relevant figures, such as film club reaching about 65 and table tennis rising from roughly 15 to 50. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: film-club numbers dip slightly before rising, rather than remaining constant from 2000 to 2010; musical performances begin in 2010, not 2005; and the graph reports participant numbers, not percentages. The overview is relevant, but the account of musical performances and the exact changes in some series are less fully and accurately developed. Check each trend and unit against the graph before writing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an overview followed by paragraphs describing the activities, and contrast markers such as “In contrast” help signal comparisons. The main trends can generally be followed. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is uneven: the second paragraph moves from film club to musical performances, while the final paragraph returns to table tennis, amateur dramatics and martial arts without a clear grouping principle. Some linking phrases are awkward or repetitive, including “Furthermore” and “In contrast,” and references such as “they” and “All of them martial arts” are not always clear. Grouping the rising, falling and stable series more deliberately, and using clearer references, would make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “participation,” “dramatically increased,” “significantly decreased” and “stable,” so the reader can understand the broad trends. There is also some attempt to vary descriptions of change. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “number of participant,” “start rose,” “reached at,” and “minor difference in its participation.” “Table tenis” and “increas” also show spelling errors, while “28%” and “5%” use the wrong unit for participant counts. Aim for precise, natural chart language—for example, “the number of participants,” “rose to,” and “a slight fluctuation”—and check spelling and units carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast structure in “In contrast, amateur dramatics activity participation fell…” and a relative clause in “which showed relationship between number of participant and year.” However, some errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement and articles make parts of the response awkward. Examples include “Film club was the only one which had more participants and they remain constant,” where the tense and pronoun agreement are unclear, and “All of them martial arts was those,” which is difficult to parse. Missing articles in “shows that number” and inconsistent past-tense forms such as “start increasing” also reduce accuracy. Use consistent past tense for the period and check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
