Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important features: the film club remains the most popular activity, amateur dramatics declines, and table tennis rises sharply to become second by 2020. These observations are broadly supported by the chart. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: musical performances began in 2010, not 2005, and martial arts fluctuated around the mid-30s rather than simply “remained the same.” The opening also describes participant numbers as a “ratio,” which misrepresents what is measured. The overview is relevant but does not clearly summarise the major contrast between the strong growth in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. More precise reporting and a fuller overview would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to details, and it groups several trends together. However, progression within the final paragraph is difficult to follow because multiple activities and comparisons are packed into one long sentence. Connectors such as “whereas,” “however,” and “but” are repeated or used awkwardly, so relationships between points are not always clear. The final phrase, “remained the same,” also leaves the reader unsure what exactly stayed unchanged. Use shorter sentences and organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, rising activities together and declining or fluctuating ones together. This would make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “decreased rapidly,” “increased gradually,” “rapid growth,” and “reduction.” This gives the reader a general sense of the changes. However, several word choices are inaccurate or unnatural for a graph description: “ratio of participants” should refer to numbers, “linear presentation” is not the usual term, and “suffered some fluctuations” is an awkward collocation. There are also spelling errors, including “fluctions,” and repeated use of “participants,” “members,” and “people” limits precision. Choose standard chart language and vary it carefully, using terms such as “figure,” “number,” “rose,” and “fell” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas using subordinate clauses and contrast, as in “whereas … decreased rapidly,” but the longer sentence structures are often difficult to control. The final paragraph contains several clauses joined together without clear sentence boundaries, and punctuation around these clauses is inconsistent. There are also errors in articles and sentence construction, such as “film club had the highest number” and “gained the position of 2nd highest with the participants of 55.” Missing spaces after commas and inconsistent comma use further affect readability. Aim for a mixture of shorter, accurate sentences and a few carefully formed complex ones; check articles, clause boundaries, and punctuation during revision.
