Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s subject and report several relevant figures, including the film club’s consistently high participation and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the overview is limited: it does not capture the major rise in table tennis, which becomes the second-largest activity by 2020, and the conclusion incorrectly says musical performances had the lowest participation overall, despite amateur dramatics falling to about six. Some details are also inaccurate or unclear: amateur dramatics falls to six by 2020, not across 2010–2020, and table tennis rises from about 20 in 2005 to 54 in 2020, not from 2020 to 2020. Select the main trends accurately and compare the activities at the beginning and end.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable sequence: an introduction, an overview, descriptions of individual activities, and a concluding statement. This gives the reader some organisation, and time markers such as “In 2000” and “From 2015 to 2020” help locate information. However, the progression is mostly a list of series rather than a clear comparison of the chart’s main patterns. The conclusion repeats and partly contradicts earlier information, while transitions such as “But” and “Only” are used mechanically. The table-tennis sentence “From 2020 to 2020” also disrupts the timeline. Grouping the rising activities together and the declining or stable ones together, with accurate linking phrases, would make the account more coherent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic vocabulary to identify the activities and describe basic movement, including “decreased,” “increased,” and “participants.” However, the range is limited and several repeated or inaccurate expressions make the report less natural, such as “members participate in” and “take participate.” Some word choices also obscure the intended meaning: “film club contains high number” and “lowest ratio” are not suitable descriptions of participant totals. Spelling errors, including “Austrailia,” “conatins,” and “tabel,” are noticeable. Build a more precise set of chart-reporting expressions, such as “the number of participants stood at,” “rose steadily,” and “remained relatively stable,” and check spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response communicates the general topic, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Many sentences have errors in verb form, agreement, articles, or sentence boundaries: “65 people take film club activity,” “it can slighthly decreased,” and “Nobody, participate” are examples. Tense shifts between present and past also occur when describing historical data, and some clauses are difficult to interpret, as in “It is same in the year 2010 to 2020.” Most sentences follow a simple pattern, with little accurate variety in complex structures. Use the past tense consistently, check subject–verb agreement and articles, and practise combining comparisons accurately—for example, “Participation fell from about 26 to 6 over the period.”
