Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the period and several relevant activities, and your overview correctly highlights the sharp decline in amateur dramatics. However, the overview is inaccurate in saying that participation in all the other activities increased: film-club numbers dipped before rising, while martial-arts figures fluctuated around a similar level. Some details are also unclear or incorrect. For example, table tennis and amateur dramatics do not overtake each other between 2005 and 2015; table tennis rises above amateur dramatics by 2010. The response also gives little account of the strong growth in table tennis or the rise in musical performances after 2005. Select the main trends more accurately and support them with clear comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview and a paragraph of details, and time markers such as “in 2000” and “between 2005 and 2015” help orient the reader. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the final paragraph moves between several activities without grouping related trends, and “Whereas” begins a fragment rather than a complete contrast. The phrase “In between” is also an imprecise link for the period being described, while repeated references to “the numbers of participants” make the writing feel mechanical. Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, stable or fluctuating activities versus those with major rises or falls—and use linking phrases only where their relationship is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “declining substantially,” “edged up,” “plunged” and “surpass,” showing an attempt to describe change rather than simply repeat figures. Some less common choices are inaccurate or awkward, however: “interesect” is misspelled and does not fit the intended comparison, “plateuated” is not the correct form, and “musical performers” refers to people rather than the activity’s participants. “Apparent data” and “in a specific nation” are also unnatural in this context. These choices sometimes make the intended meaning harder to follow. Prefer precise chart language such as “the figures show,” “remained stable,” and “the number of participants in musical performances.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “when” and a longer sentence describing several trends. However, control is uneven, and errors in sentence construction and punctuation sometimes make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. The opening sentence has an awkward structure (“tracks the information that total participants…”), and “Whereas, in musical performances numbers of participants were zero till 2005” is not a complete sentence. Commas are also misplaced or missing, as in “period ,2000 to 2020” and “plunged ,after 2005.” Practise writing complete, direct sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check punctuation around introductory time phrases and clauses.
