Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response identifies the main overall contrast: the film club remains the largest activity, while musical performances begin at zero and grow. It also reports the major decline in amateur dramatics and the strong rise in table tennis, with figures broadly matching the chart. This gives the summary a sound factual basis and covers the key series. However, the overview is incomplete: calling musical performances the minimum does not capture their upward trend, and it would be more informative to note that table tennis becomes the second-largest activity by 2020. Some details are imprecise, such as saying table tennis rose “in the next 20 years” after 2010, when the chart shows the rise from 2010 to 2020. A sharper overview and more precise comparisons would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to two detail paragraphs. The grouping of film club, martial arts and amateur dramatics, followed by table tennis and musical performances, helps the reader follow the different trends. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Moreover,” and “However” also signal relationships between points. At times, though, the progression is mechanical, and some transitions do not clearly connect the ideas. “Looking at the line chart in more details” is a fragment-like lead-in rather than a complete sentence, while “after 2010 the number of participants increased rapidly in the next 20 years” makes the time sequence difficult to follow. Use complete topic sentences and clearer chronological phrasing to improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “fluctuates,” “increased rapidly,” and “reached,” so the main trends are generally understandable. There is some variety in how changes are described, but word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive. Phrases such as “filmclub,” “reached lower,” “started dropped continuesly,” and “musical club” are either incorrectly formed or not natural for this context. Spelling errors, including “diiferent,” “rised,” and “continuesly,” also reduce precision. Aim for accurate trend language and consistent use of the chart’s activity labels—for example, “fell to,” “declined steadily,” and “musical performances.” This would make the description clearer and more appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, and the reader can usually understand the intended comparisons. However, control of sentence structure and verb forms is inconsistent, particularly in longer sentences. Examples include “participants in film club was maximum,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “after 2005 it started dropped,” where the verb pattern is faulty. “There was no any participants” also has an incorrect determiner and plural construction. Several clauses are joined without clear punctuation, and “Looking at the line chart in more details” is not a complete sentence. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build longer sentences around clear main clauses; this will help reduce errors that sometimes make the timeline harder to interpret.
