Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response identifies the main overall patterns: film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises substantially, and amateur dramatics falls sharply. It also includes relevant comparisons and several approximate figures, such as table tennis reaching above 50 and amateur dramatics ending near 5. These points give the summary a clear focus. However, some details are inaccurate or imprecise: musical performances began in 2010, not 2005, and film club ended at about 66 rather than “near 70.” The account of martial arts is also vague, and the table-tennis description omits its strong rise from 2010 to 2015. More precise reporting of these changes would make the coverage more consistently well supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the activities. Its progression from the leading film club to other series is generally understandable, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Meanwhile,” and “In contrast” help signal relationships. This provides coherent organisation. However, the grouping of information is not always smooth: the third paragraph moves from film club to martial arts and then table tennis, while the final paragraph returns to musical performances and amateur dramatics. Some transitions feel mechanical or awkward, particularly “Looking first at” and “Furthermore.” Grouping the two rising activities together and the declining activity separately, with clearer links between comparisons, would make the progression more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

There is an adequate range of vocabulary for describing trends, including “substantially rose,” “declined,” “fluctuated,” and “surged.” These choices help communicate the main movements, and the meaning is generally clear. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “took participation,” “remained at a higher number,” and “recorded almost 40.” “Plummated” is also an incorrect spelling; “plummeted” would be appropriate. The response sometimes repeats general terms such as “numbers” rather than using precise descriptions of participant totals. Aim for natural collocations such as “the number of participants,” “stood at,” and “increased steadily,” while checking spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response attempts a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including contrast clauses with “however” and “In contrast,” and most of the intended meaning can be followed. Nevertheless, grammatical control is uneven. For example, “Looking first at, film club” has faulty punctuation and sentence framing, while “however if fluctuated” contains an incorrect pronoun and clause structure. There are also problems with articles and number agreement in “the musical performance began” and “amateur dramatics were.” The sentence about table tennis beginning “In 2000 table tennis players…” lacks a clear grammatical link between the year and the figures. Use complete, carefully punctuated sentences and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and clause construction.
