Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify the chart as covering several activities over time and mention some broad movements, including the film club’s slight dip followed by a rise and table tennis’s later increase. However, the account contains major inaccuracies that make the trends difficult to follow: table tennis starts at about 16, not 15, and rises to about 54, rather than 40–50; amateur dramatics declines from about 26 to 6, not from zero or upward to 15–20. The martial-arts figures and years are also confused. There is no clear, accurate overview of the main features or comparison of the activities. Select the most important trends, report them accurately, and distinguish the series clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to organise the response by activity, using signals such as “overall,” “in contrast,” and “finally.” This gives the reader some indication of how you intend to move through the chart. However, the opening overview is not clearly separated from the details, and several sentences combine multiple years and trends without a clear sequence. For example, the amateur-dramatics sentence moves between 2000, 2005, 2010, and later years in a way that is hard to interpret. Connectors such as “on other hand” and “moreover” are sometimes used inaccurately or mechanically. Use clear paragraphs and present each activity’s figures in chronological order, with linking phrases that show the actual relationship between trends.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “increase,” “drop,” and “rise,” and you attempt to describe changes rather than simply list figures. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear, such as “highly rise,” “minor increase,” and “went up at.” There are also frequent spelling errors in key terms, including “pericipants,” “armateur dramatic,” “flim,” and “deline,” which reduce precision. Aim to use a small set of accurate trend expressions consistently, such as “rose sharply,” “declined steadily,” and “remained relatively stable.” Check spelling and use the correct activity names so the reader can identify each series easily.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to form longer sentences and use time references, but sentence structures are often incomplete or joined in ways that obscure the relationships between ideas. For instance, “on other hand in 2010 we saw minor increase and then we saw increase inboth year 2015 and 2010” lacks clear sentence boundaries and does not express the sequence accurately. Articles, plurals, and verb forms are also inconsistent, as in “the participant … has 35 person” and “there was rised.” Capitalisation and punctuation are unreliable, with several sentences beginning in lowercase and commas or full stops missing. Practise writing short, complete sentences with a consistent past tense, then combine them using accurate clauses and punctuation.
