Student answer (Band 6.5)
The line graph depicts the data on the amount of participants for dintinguish tasks at one community centre in Melbourne, Australia for two decades starting from 2000.
Overall, the highest number of participants were in film club during the time period which was followed by martial arts that did not change much remaining second highest for first 15 years. The rest three categories had mix results that included rise and dips in the number of people for these activities.
The number of participants in the film club and martial arts did not fluctuate much, it was visible that they remained between 60 to 70 and 30 to 40 respectively during the whole time period.
On the other hand, the amateur dramatics saw a slow growth during the initial five years as the chart shows the amount between 25 to 30 which drops significantly for next 15 years reaching the lowest point that was below 10. The table tennis was less popular during the first ten years as fifteen to twenty people preffered playing it, after which a sudden boom is noticeable for the next ten years making it one of the most popular activity among the majority resulting in it having more than 50 players in 2020. Musical performances was introduced five years later than all the activities and according to the graph it developed interest between few people as the participants in this category kept on increasing every five years leading to nearly 20 inviduals in 2020.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You provide a clear overview of the main patterns: film club remains the largest activity, martial arts changes little, amateur dramatics declines, and table tennis rises sharply. The account also includes useful comparisons, such as table tennis becoming one of the most popular activities by 2020, and reports the introduction and gradual growth of musical performances. Most figures and trends match the chart. However, the overview says the other three categories had a mixture of rises and dips, which is broad and less precise than identifying the contrasting long-term decline in amateur dramatics and strong growth in table tennis. Also, martial arts is not second-highest in the final years, when table tennis overtakes it. More precise comparisons across the period would strengthen an already well-supported summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response is organised into an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and the progression from the relatively stable activities to the changing ones is easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” help signal the structure. This clear arrangement is a strength. However, some connections are mechanical or imprecise: “The rest three categories had mix results” does not clearly preview the contrasting trends, and the final paragraph combines three activities in a long sequence, making comparisons harder to track. The reference in “which was followed by martial arts” is also slightly unclear because it refers to participant numbers rather than the activity itself. Use clearer topic sentences and separate the declining and rising trends to make cohesion more flexible and precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “fluctuate,” “significantly,” “introduced,” and “increasing,” and the reader can understand the main trends. There are also attempts at more descriptive phrasing, such as “a sudden boom.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal for an academic report: “amount of participants” should be “number of participants,” “dintinguish tasks” is unclear, and “developed interest between few people” is unnatural. Spelling errors such as “preffered” and “inviduals” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional chart language—for example, “participation rose sharply” and “the figure reached approximately 18”—and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “as,” “which,” and “after which,” and the overall meaning remains clear. Some sentences are controlled, such as “Musical performances was introduced five years later than all the activities,” though this example contains a subject–verb agreement error. Other issues include “the highest number of participants were,” where the singular subject requires “was,” and “one of the most popular activity,” which needs a plural noun. The long final sentence also contains several clauses joined without clear punctuation, making its structure difficult to manage. These errors do not generally prevent understanding, but more consistent agreement, article use and sentence-boundary control would improve accuracy while retaining your range of structures.
