Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the main leading activity and the decline in amateur dramatics, which are relevant features. However, the account only partially reports the graph: several figures are described as broad ranges rather than accurately compared, and some trends are misrepresented. For example, film club stayed around 60–66 participants, rather than “from 60 to 70,” while table tennis rose sharply from about 20 in 2010 to 54 in 2020. Amateur dramatics fell to approximately 6, not “0 to approximately 20.” The claim that martial arts “rose after 2010 to 2020” also misses its fluctuations and broadly stable level. Include a clearer overview of the contrasting trends and support it with accurate key figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “By contrast” and “Furthermore” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the detail paragraphs mix activities and time periods, and some connections are unclear. The sentence beginning “Table tennis was also participated in activities” combines several stages without clear boundaries, while the final paragraph repeats table tennis and amateur dramatics rather than adding a well-organised comparison. Use one paragraph for the overview and group the details by clear trends—for example, the rising activities and the declining or fluctuating ones. Make each sentence report one understandable comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “participants,” “decline,” “increased” and “period,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to interpret. Phrases such as “faced backlash,” “was also participated in activities” and “greater number … for whole the time period” are not natural ways to describe graph trends. There are also spelling and word-form problems, including “untill,” “falled” and “priod.” Aim for precise reporting verbs and nouns such as “rose,” “fell,” “fluctuated,” “remained stable” and “participant numbers.” Check spelling and use standard collocations when describing figures.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “while” and a clause beginning “although.” However, complex constructions are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the response hard to understand. For example, “which was held on Melbourne the city of Australia” has problems with the relative clause, prepositions and sentence structure; “amateur dramatics falled down” has an incorrect verb form; and “Martial arts although was the greater number” lacks a clear grammatical structure. Articles, agreement and sentence boundaries also need attention. Practise building short, accurate sentences first, then combine them with correctly formed clauses, such as “Table tennis rose sharply after 2010, while amateur dramatics declined.”
