Student answer (Band 6.0)

The line graph compares the data of number of participants who participated in different activities, such as martial arts, film clubs, table tennis, amateur dramatic, and musical performances from 2000 to 2020 at a social center of the Melbourne, Australia.

Overall, multiple flucatuations in the number of participants took place over the two decades. The most striking increase occured in the number of participants in table tennis game, while the ratio of participants in amateur daramatics comsiderably fell down over years.

In the begining of 21st century, the Melbourne social center introduced four activities, out of which, the film club recorded the maximum number of enteries in 2000, expeienced a tiny drop by 2010 an recovered back to 65 participants by 2020. However, the interest of citizens in martial arts faced several up and downs over years. Moreover, table tennis initiated with 28 participants, dropped 5% by 2010 but steeped rapidly in the next decade, therefore, hit upto 50 number of participants.

In contrast, a severe decline is recorded in amateur dramatics by 2020 which reduced to the half of numebr of participants. Additionally, a musical performance club was introduced by 2005 which attracted a number of enrollments and enrolled 19 participants by the end of 2020.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main overall movements: table tennis rises markedly, amateur dramatics declines, and film-club participation remains high. These are relevant features and give the response a clear overview. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear. Table tennis began at about 16 participants, not 28, and it did not drop by 5% by 2010; it rose to around 20 before climbing sharply. Amateur dramatics fell from about 26 to 6, rather than being reduced to half. The claim that the centre introduced four activities is unsupported, and musical performances first show participants in 2010, not 2005. The film-club figure at the end is close, but the account would be stronger with more accurate comparisons and clearer reporting of the series’ changes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing selected activities. The overview usefully highlights the strongest rise and fall, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In contrast,” and “Additionally” help signal relationships between points. This gives the report a coherent overall arrangement. Some connections, however, are mechanical or do not clearly express the data relationship: “therefore” before the table-tennis endpoint is unnecessary, while “Moreover” introduces another series without a clear comparison. The body also groups trends unevenly, and several details are compressed into long sentences, making the sequence of changes harder to follow. Organise the details by clear trend groups and use more precise links between comparisons to make progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “fluctuations,” “decline,” “introduced,” and “attracted,” and the reader can generally understand the trends you intend to describe. There are also attempts at more formal reporting language. However, inaccurate word choice and collocation sometimes make the description awkward: “data of number,” “ratio of participants,” “entries,” and “hit up to 50 number of participants” are not natural ways to report this graph. Several spelling errors, including “flucatuations,” “dar am atics” (written as “daramatics”), and “numebr,” also reduce control. Aim for precise, conventional phrases such as “the number of participants,” “participation,” and “rose to around 54,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while,” “which,” and “out of which.” Most of the intended meaning remains understandable, and the response shows some control of past-tense reporting. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “the data of number of participants” needs a clearer noun phrase, and “a musical performance club was introduced by 2005” uses an awkward time construction; the chart shows the activity appearing in 2010. The sentence beginning “In the beginning of 21st century” also needs an article before “the 21st century.” Several sentences carry too many ideas, which contributes to faulty structures. Use shorter, controlled sentences and check articles, verb forms, and clause boundaries.
