Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response gives a clear overview of the main patterns: film club remains the most popular activity, amateur dramatics declines, and table tennis rises strongly, especially after 2010. It also reports several relevant figures, including film club’s fall to about 60 before recovering and table tennis reaching 54 by 2020. These choices address the task well and support the summary. However, some details are inaccurate: the amateur dramatics figure in 2010 is about 20, not 18, and martial arts ends at about 36 rather than 37. The overview also says all other activities fluctuated, although musical performances rose steadily after 2005. More precise comparisons and a distinction between steady trends and fluctuations would strengthen an otherwise clear account.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response is organised into an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and the information generally progresses from the overall picture to specific figures. Comparisons such as “In contrast” and “whereas” help connect the series, while the final paragraph groups the less popular activities effectively. This gives the report a coherent overall arrangement. However, some linking is mechanical or imprecise: “In the following years” is repeated in effect, and “the amateur and the table tennis” makes the reference awkward. The overview’s claim that all other activities fluctuated also weakens the logical relationship between the summary and the steady rise in musical performances. Clearer referencing and more exact transitions between time periods would make cohesion more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “decreased steadily,” “opposite trend,” “remained zero” and “rapidly increased.” These expressions help describe change and comparison, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, noticeable word-choice, collocation and spelling problems limit precision. “Numbers of individuals participated” is not a natural construction, “highest participated activity” is awkward, and “music ratio” does not accurately describe participant numbers. There are also misspellings such as “Malbourne,” “througout” and “Untill,” alongside repeated use of “increased” and “decreased.” Use standard chart language such as “number of participants,” “most popular activity” and “participation,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response attempts a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “while,” “whereas” and “although”-type contrasts, and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, errors occur frequently in sentence construction and verb forms. For example, “individuals participated” needs a grammatical construction such as “individuals participating,” while “the amateur and the table tennis seemed to follows” has faulty agreement and verb form. “Table tennis percentage stay unchanged” also needs a past-tense verb, and “film club started from around 64%” uses an awkward grammatical pattern. Articles and sentence boundaries are not consistently controlled either. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and subject–verb agreement, then proofread each sentence for a complete, correctly formed clause.
