Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad contrast between Film Club’s high participation and the decline in Amateur Dramatics, and you attempt to describe changes over time. However, the response only partially covers the graph: Table Tennis and Musical Performances are not described with figures or trends, and Martial Arts is mentioned only in the overview. Some details are inaccurate: the chart begins in 2000, not 2002; Film Club falls slightly before rising, rather than staying the same in 2020; and the figures are numbers of participants, not proportions or percentages. The overview also says Martial Arts increased, although it fluctuates around a similar level. The response is 11 words below the required minimum. Include a clear overview and select key comparisons across all five activities, using accurate years and units.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, moving from an opening description to a broad overview and then to details about Film Club and Amateur Dramatics. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression is limited because three activities receive little or no supporting detail, and the overview is split into fragments, such as “And dwindled in Amateur dramatics” and “Moreover, the highest ratio…”. The transition “having amyopic look” does not clearly signal a useful next stage, while “while” joins details without a clear comparison. Use distinct paragraphs for the overview and grouped details, and connect related trends with precise, simple linking phrases such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of vocabulary, including “delineates,” “escalated,” “dwindled,” and “fluctated,” and some choices show an effort to describe trends rather than simply list figures. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural for this chart, and they sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. “Proportion” and “ratio” are unsuitable because the graph reports participant numbers, while “having amyopic look” is not an appropriate way to introduce detail. There are also spelling errors, including “Flim,” “consipucious,” and “fluctated.” Aim for accurate, natural chart language and prioritise clear terms such as “number,” “rose,” “fell,” and “remained broadly stable.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both longer sentences and shorter summary statements, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “Moreover, the highest ratio of participants in Film club and least in Amateur dramatics” is a sentence fragment, and “the participants participated in Film clubs was more than 60%” has faulty subject–verb structure. The opening sentence also has an unclear time construction (“in 2000 to 2020”), and “it stay same in 2020” uses an incorrect verb form and lacks an article. Work on complete sentence formation, subject–verb agreement, past-tense consistency, and articles. A reliable pattern is: “The number of participants in X rose from … to … between 2000 and 2020.”
