Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several important patterns, including the film club’s consistently high participation, the sharp decline in amateur dramatics, and the strong rise in table tennis. However, the summary is only partial and some details are inaccurate or unclear. Film club participation did not remain the same: it dipped slightly before rising to about 66. Martial arts fluctuated around the mid-30s rather than showing a clear increase, and musical performances rose to about 18, not 10. The overview also misses the key comparison that table tennis became the second most popular activity by 2020. Select the main trends accurately and give a concise overview before supporting it with figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the graph, then discusses several activities, using connectors such as “However” and “Moreover.” This gives the reader some sense of how the information is grouped. However, the progression is not consistently clear, and ideas are repeated: the decline in amateur dramatics is reported twice, while film club is also discussed in separate, disconnected statements. The contrast signalled by “However” is not always clear, and the final sentence adds musical performances without linking this trend to the other comparisons. Organise the report into a clear overview and focused detail paragraphs, grouping similar trends and avoiding repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “participants,” “decreased,” “rose significantly,” and “throughout the period,” so the main trends are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are awkward, such as “participants who joined amateur arts,” “take actively part,” and “no much difference.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “partipants,” “consierably,” and “throught,” which reduce accuracy. Use precise activity names from the graph and practise natural trend language, for example, “participation in amateur dramatics fell” and “table tennis numbers climbed sharply.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the opening sentence communicates the chart’s subject and period. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, with frequent errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “The highest number … were … and was” has faulty agreement, while “amateur arts decrease” uses an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “There was no much difference” also has an inaccurate construction, and “remains same in last” lacks appropriate tense and grammatical elements. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build longer sentences from correctly formed clauses.
