Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several relevant features, including the film club’s high participation, the rise in table tennis, the decline in amateur dramatics, and the absence of musical performances at the start. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: film club remained the highest throughout, while table tennis—not amateur dramatics—was the second-highest activity by 2020. The response also refers to “four different activities,” although the graph shows five, and calls participant numbers “proportion” or “percentage.” Some figures are misreported: table tennis began at about 16, not 18, and reached about 54, rather than 50; musical performances ended near 18, not 20. Select the main trends accurately and compare the series across the full period.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs of details, and it uses signposts such as “Overall” and “On the other hand.” These help the reader recognise the intended stages of the report. However, progression is limited: the overview repeats unclear comparisons, and the final paragraph groups several trends together without a clear sequence. Repeated constructions such as “the number of participants who participant” make relationships between activities and figures difficult to follow. Organise the details more systematically—for example, describe the broadly stable activities together, then contrast the sharp rise in table tennis with the fall in amateur dramatics. Use linking phrases only where they clarify a genuine comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “increased dramatically,” “decreased,” and “reached,” which helps convey change. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “Proportion” and “percentage” do not describe the graph’s participant counts; “number” is appropriate. Phrases such as “whose participants who was participants” and “participant in” are difficult to interpret, while “the number of participant was surge” is not a natural way to describe a rise. Aim for concise, accurate expressions such as “participation in table tennis rose” and “the figure for amateur dramatics fell.” This will make the report clearer and more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the response generally follows a recognisable past-to-present time frame. However, complex constructions are often faulty, and frequent errors sometimes make the meaning difficult to understand. Examples include “the highest number of participants was participate,” “the proportion of whose participants who participant,” and “the number of participant was surge.” These show problems with verb forms, agreement and sentence construction. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “0 participant” and “the number of participant.” Build shorter, controlled sentences first, checking that each subject has a correctly formed verb; then combine ideas using accurate clauses. This would improve clarity while retaining some structural variety.
