Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main patterns accurately: film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises sharply, and amateur dramatics declines. The overview is clear, and several figures are well selected, including film club’s start at 64 and finish at about 66, and musical performances’ rise to 18. This covers the task well, but some important comparisons are less fully developed. For example, table tennis overtakes martial arts by 2020, but the response does not specify when it moves ahead or compare their final figures directly. The claim that amateur dramatics was the “only activity to decline significantly” is broadly supported, though martial arts also fluctuates rather than showing a clear overall rise. A more precise overview and fuller comparison of the changing rankings would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, a clear overview, and paragraphs describing the main trends. The contrast between “On the other hand” and the preceding discussion helps signal a shift to the rising activities. However, some linking is mechanical or imprecise. “Over the beginning period” is unclear, and “overtaking both martial arts and amateur dramatics over the way” does not clearly explain the sequence of changes. The final paragraph repeats points already made in the overview and adds a broad conclusion rather than a new comparison. To improve progression, group the series by trend and use clearer references to time, such as “by 2015” or “over the final decade,” while avoiding a separate repetitive conclusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing trends, including “consistently,” “fluctuating,” “recovered,” “shot up,” and “decline.” These choices make the main patterns understandable, and the response attempts some varied phrasing. However, several word choices or collocations are imprecise or too informal for an academic report: “most participated activity,” “shot up,” and “over the way.” There are also spelling errors in “amaetur” and “popluar,” and “poplar” appears in the conclusion. These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy and control. Prefer standard chart language such as “most popular activity,” “rose sharply,” and “overtaking,” and proofread carefully for spelling and repeated wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, and most of the trends remain clear. For instance, the overview uses a contrast structure, while the body includes clauses describing changes over time. Some grammatical errors remain. In “Martial arts, remained collectively stable,” the comma incorrectly separates the subject from its verb; “Martial arts remained relatively stable” is more accurate. “Starting from 64 participants … though it dipped” also has an unclear grammatical connection, and “from 32 to 38 participants” would be better expressed as “between 32 and 38 participants.” The final sentence, “some activities becoming popluar than others,” needs a comparative form such as “more popular.” More consistent control of sentence links, comparisons, and punctuation would improve accuracy.
