Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify all five activities and report several broad patterns, including the rise in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the response only partially fulfils the task because it gives no clear overall summary comparing the main features, and some figures or dates are inaccurate. For example, film-club participation falls to 60 in 2010, not 2012, and reaches about 66 in 2020 rather than 70. Table tennis rises to about 54, not 60, while amateur dramatics ends at about 6 rather than zero. Musical performances reach roughly 18, not 20. Add a concise overview and select the most important comparisons, using accurate approximate values.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response follows a recognisable sequence, describing the activities one by one, and phrases such as “then” and “again” help show changes over time. This gives the reader some organisation, but there is no separate overview to establish the main trends, and the repeated pattern of “The line with…” makes the progression mechanical. The descriptions also read as a list rather than a connected summary of the graph. Grouping the activities by trend—for example, the sharp rise in table tennis alongside the fall in amateur dramatics—would create clearer comparisons. Use paragraphing to separate an overview from the detailed figures, and vary linking language so relationships between series are explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a basic set of relevant terms, including “increases,” “decreases,” “remained same,” and “approximately,” so the general meaning of the trends is usually understandable. However, the vocabulary is limited and repetitive, particularly in the repeated references to “the line with” different symbols. Some word choices and forms are inaccurate or awkward, such as “musical performance of the people” and “number of people participate.” Spelling errors including “wuth,” “teriange,” and “dar am atics” also reduce clarity. Use standard activity names and a wider range of precise trend language, such as “participant numbers,” “rose steadily,” or “declined sharply,” while checking spelling and natural collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to describe several changes in connected sentences, and the reader can generally follow the intended meaning. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in basic patterns. For example, “the participation … was zero … it increases” shifts tense, while “number of people participate … were 36” has problems with verb form and agreement. Missing articles and punctuation also appear in phrases such as “in film club” and in the run-on sequence “zero from 2000 to 2005,it increases.” Use the past tense consistently for the period shown, check singular and plural agreement, and divide long sequences into correctly punctuated sentences. More accurate simple structures would improve clarity.
