The line graph illustrate the data on the number of participants for various activites at one social centre in Melbourne,in Australia for a period of 20 years. The graph is measured in the number of participants on the vertical line and on horizontal line is measured in years.

To begin, film club and martial arts were the activities people in Melbourne in Australia show much interest in, which stood at 65 and 35 in the year 2000 but begin to increased gradually throughout the year to reach almost a peak of 70 and 40 participants throughot the time frame.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several relevant patterns, including the film club’s high participation, the decline in amateur dramatics, and the strong rise in table tennis. However, the overview is inaccurate: it says all activities increased except amateur dramatics, although martial arts fluctuated around the mid-30s rather than rising steadily. Some figures and comparisons are also imprecise: film club ended at about 66, not almost 70, and martial arts finished near its starting level. The discussion of musical performances correctly notes their gradual rise from zero, but the response does not clearly compare the activities’ overall positions or highlight table tennis becoming the second most popular by 2020. Select the main trends more accurately and support them with clearer comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two detail paragraphs. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and transitions such as “Overall,” “To begin,” and “However” signal changes in focus. However, progression is weakened by grouping three activities together without clearly separating their trends, and the sentence beginning “However, the three activities…” is incomplete before the next sentence starts. Some links are also awkward or unclear, particularly “Moreover” where the table-tennis trend is introduced. Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, stable/high series versus rising or falling series—and use linking words only where the relationship between ideas is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary such as “participants,” “stood at,” “decreased,” and “reach,” so the reader can generally understand the trends being described. There is some attempt to vary language, including “fall dramatically” and “increased gradually.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “show much interest in,” “least activities people…do anticipat,” and “reach a peak” for a figure that is not the series’ peak. Spelling errors such as “activites” and “throughot” also reduce control. Aim for precise, neutral reporting language and check spelling; alternatives such as “attracted the most participants” and “rose to” would fit this task more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors are frequent, especially in subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “The line graph illustrate” should be “illustrates,” while “begin to increased” combines incompatible verb forms. The overview’s “all the activities increased” also conflicts with the later description of martial arts, though the main grammatical issue is the sentence construction. Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent, and the sentence beginning “However, the three activities…” is a fragment. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build complex sentences around one clear main clause, checking agreement and punctuation before finishing.
