Student answer (Band 6.5)

The given line graphs tracks the participation of number of individuals for various activities at a social centre in Melbourne, Australia between 2000 to 2020.

Overall, there seems to be a varied difference in participation of people in different activities. While, the film club was the most popular activity, amaetur dramatics became the least participated interests over the 20 year period.

To begin with, the film club began rougly at 64 participants in the year 2000 though it dipped slighlty to 60 in 2010 but rebounded to approximately 66 participants by the year 2020. Martial arts remained relatively stable throughout the years, fluctuating slighlty between 32 to 38 participants, levelling off at 36 participants in 2020.

On the other hand, amateur dramatics began at around 28 participants in 2000 though in changed marginally to almost 30 participants in 2005 but then fell sharply to less than 10 participants by 2020. In contrast, table tennis started at just 16 participants but climbe steadily to 20 participants by 2010. It then surgent dramatically to more than 50 participants overtaking martial arts and amateur dramatics. Musical performances attracted no participants in the first two periods, but rose gradually from 2010, reaching about 18 by the end.

In conclusion, people's participation varied significantly over the years resulting the dominating acivity as film club and the least popular activity became amateur dramatics.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You identify the main patterns and support them with relevant figures: the film club remains the most popular, amateur dramatics declines markedly, table tennis rises strongly, and musical performances grow from zero. The overview also captures the leading and least popular activities. Most reported values and trends match the chart. However, there are a few imprecisions: amateur dramatics starts at about 26, not 28, and rises only to about 28 in 2005, rather than almost 30; table tennis rises sharply after 2010 rather than climbing steadily throughout. The conclusion repeats the overview instead of adding a useful comparison. Overall, the key features are addressed and supported, though greater precision and less repetition would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response is organised into an introduction, an overview, two detail paragraphs and a conclusion, and the information generally progresses logically. Grouping the film club and martial arts together, then discussing the other three activities, makes the comparisons easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “In contrast” help signal shifts between trends. Some connections are less effective: “In conclusion” introduces a repeated summary rather than a new point, and “While” in the overview is awkwardly separated by punctuation. The repeated use of contrast markers also makes some transitions feel formulaic. Keep the clear paragraph structure, but use links that express the precise relationship between trends and avoid restating the overview at the end.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing trends, including “fluctuating,” “fell sharply,” “rebounded” and “overtaking.” These choices help communicate changes across the period. However, several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems reduce precision: “participation of number of individuals” is unnatural, “least participated interests” is not idiomatic, and “surgent” is an incorrect form. There are also spelling slips such as “amaetur,” “slighlty” and “acivity.” Some expressions, including “varied difference” and “climbe steadily,” are unclear or imprecise. Aim for standard chart-description collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully; this will make your otherwise understandable vocabulary more accurate and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “While,” “though” and “but,” and most of the trends remain understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with agreement, articles, prepositions and sentence construction. For example, “The given line graphs tracks” has a plural subject with a singular verb, while “between 2000 to 2020” uses the wrong preposition pattern. In “though in changed marginally,” the pronoun and verb form are incorrect, and “resulting the dominating activity” lacks the grammatical structure needed to express the result. Punctuation also disrupts the opening overview clause: “While, the film club…” Practise checking subject–verb agreement and complete clause patterns, while retaining your attempts at varied sentence structures.
