Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main categories and some important patterns, particularly the steady decline in amateur dramatics and the strong rise in table tennis. However, the overview is unclear and includes inaccurate claims: film club was not the highest in all years, since table tennis reached about 54 by 2020, and musical performances began in 2010, not 2005. Several figures are also misreported, such as table tennis at about 16 rather than 10 in 2000, and musical performances at about 18 rather than 5 in 2020. The response therefore covers the graph only partially, with key comparisons and trends underdeveloped. Give a precise overview, then select and accurately compare the most significant changes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression is uneven: the second body paragraph jumps between 2000, 2005 and 2010, while the final paragraph introduces musical performances without clearly connecting this to the earlier account. Some linking is inaccurate or awkward, including “Furthermore” where the relationship between ideas is not clear. Grouping the series by trend—for example, declining activities together and rising activities together—would make comparisons easier to follow. Clearer references and more purposeful transitions would also reduce repetition and improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “participants,” “decline,” “upward trend” and “trajectory,” so the reader can recognise the subject and intended patterns. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “numerical strength,” “members” for participants, and “started activity” for the beginning of a series. “Finclub” is also an unclear label for the film club, and spelling errors such as “activites” and “continues” reduce precision. Repeated use of “participants” and “members” makes the description less varied. Use the chart’s exact activity names and practise standard trend collocations such as “rose steadily,” “remained stable” and “fell sharply.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, especially in the longer descriptions. Agreement errors occur in “number of participants are different” and “participants shows,” while tense and verb-form problems appear in “numbers … was not changed” and “participants numbers goes.” Articles and sentence construction are also unreliable, as in “maximum participants was in finclub.” These errors sometimes make relationships between the data difficult to understand. Build accuracy first with clear subject–verb patterns, such as “The number of participants was…” and “Participation rose…”. Then combine clauses carefully, checking agreement, tense consistency and punctuation before adding more complex structures.
