Student answer (Band 5.0)

The illustration gives information about candidates for diverse activities at one social centre in Ausrtalia from 2000 to 2020. Overall, the contestors of film club had more strength than other partakers.

It is quite evident from the graph in the year of 2000, there were no applicants of musical performaces and they increased up to 11 members in 2005. In contrast, the contributor of table tennis were 19 in 2000 and in the next 20 years there was exponential growth in their numbers and they were 52.

Meanwhile, the competitors of amateur dramatics in 2005 were 25 and they started mitigating gradually in the upcoming years. However, members of martial arts were at the second point than others participants in 2000 and in the next five years it dropped down slightly. In 2020 their strength evolved up to 58. The number of contestants for fim club higher than the rest of others in the starting year and it remained same for the next 20 years.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several relevant patterns, including the film club’s consistently high participation, the decline in amateur dramatics, and the strong rise in table tennis. However, some key figures and trends are misreported: musical performances rose from zero to about 12 by 2010, not to 11 in 2005, and martial arts remained around 32–38 rather than reaching 58 in 2020. The claim that film-club numbers “remained same” also misses their small decline and later increase. The overview is limited to saying film club was strongest; it should also summarise the contrasting growth in table tennis and decline in amateur dramatics. More accurate selection and reporting of the main features would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about the activities. Linking expressions such as “In contrast,” “Meanwhile,” and “However” show an attempt to connect comparisons. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the second paragraph moves from musical performances to table tennis, while the final paragraph shifts among amateur dramatics, martial arts, and film club without a clear organising principle. Some links also suggest relationships that are not fully developed, and the overview is separated from the main comparisons. Grouping the rising activities together and the declining or fluctuating ones together, with clearer references to years and figures, would improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of vocabulary, including “exponential growth,” “gradually,” and “remained,” and the reader can generally identify the activities being discussed. However, many choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a graph. “Candidates,” “contestors,” “partakers,” “contributors,” and “competitors” do not naturally mean participants in this context, while “mitigating” is not suitable for a falling figure. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “Ausrtalia,” “performaces,” and “fim.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning harder to follow. Use a smaller set of precise terms consistently—such as “participants,” “the figure,” “rose,” “fell,” and “fluctuated”—rather than substituting unusual synonyms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple statements and some longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” or “however,” so there is an attempt at structural variety. Meaning is often recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and verb forms recur. For example, “the contributor of table tennis were 19” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “The number of contestants for fim club higher than the rest” is missing a verb. The phrase “in the year of 2000” is also an awkward grammatical construction, and several sentences join multiple ideas without clear punctuation. Practise complete sentence patterns such as “The number of participants in table tennis was…” and check agreement, articles, and verb forms when describing changes over time.
