Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify two valid headline features: the film club remains the most popular activity, and table tennis shows a strong rise. However, the report is incomplete and contains major data misreadings. The figures are numbers of participants, not percentages, and the final paragraph describes amateur dramatics—not table tennis: amateur dramatics falls from about 26 to 6, whereas table tennis rises from about 16 to 54. Musical performances, which begin at zero and increase, are omitted, and the other series are only partly covered. The response also falls short of the required 150 words. To improve, report the main trends for all five activities, use accurate units and values, and include a clear overview supported by comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs giving details. Linking expressions such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” help signal relationships between points. However, the progression is limited because the final paragraph is very short and does not clearly connect its figures to the correct activity; this makes the account difficult to follow. The detail paragraphs also do not provide a balanced or systematic comparison of the five series. Grouping the activities by trend—for example, rising, stable/fluctuating, and declining—would create clearer progression. Use paragraphing to cover each group and ensure that each sentence names the activity it describes.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some appropriate task vocabulary, including “compares,” “taking part,” “fluctuated,” and “dramatic increase,” so the topic is generally clear. However, several word-choice and spelling problems reduce precision: “activitis,” “againg,” “intially,” and “eventuallu” are misspelled, while “Participants of applicants” is not a meaningful description. Repeated use of “people participating” also limits variety, and “percentage” is inaccurate because the graph reports participant numbers. Use precise terms such as “participant numbers,” “rose,” “fell,” and “remained relatively stable,” and check spelling carefully. Accurate activity labels and trend vocabulary are especially important in a data summary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of sentence forms, including a complex contrast in “On the other hand, percentage of people participating in martial arts fluctuated…” and a comparative overview beginning “Overall.” Most of the intended meaning can be understood, but some grammatical patterns are incomplete or awkward. For example, “between 2000-2020” should use a suitable range construction, and “reaching to 36%” has an unnecessary preposition. The phrase “percentage of people” also needs an article if retained, though participant numbers would be more accurate here. The final sentence is difficult to parse because its subject and trend are unclear. Practise clear subject–verb structures and use consistent past-tense reporting, then proofread articles, prepositions, and punctuation.
