Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 2.5
The response makes only a minimal attempt to describe the graph and does not provide a clear summary of its main features. It identifies a period from 2000 to 2020, but the activities are mostly misidentified: the chart shows film club, martial arts, amateur dramatics, table tennis and musical performances, not “cevil defence” or “watch adult movies.” The claim that “the graph of sports” stayed almost the same and then fell from 17 to 6 is unclear and does not accurately describe a series; amateur dramatics declined from about 28 in 2005 to 6 in 2020, while table tennis rose sharply. The response also falls 96 words short of the required minimum, leaving the key comparisons and overview largely absent. Describe the main rises, falls and stable trends using the correct activity names and figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the first sentence introduces the graph, and the second begins to report a trend. However, the ideas do not develop into a clear, connected summary, and the relationship between “sports” and the fall from 17 to 6 is difficult to follow. There are no paragraph breaks or linking expressions to guide the reader through an overview and supporting details. The response therefore has only limited progression, although the two sentences are recognisable as an introduction followed by an observation. A clearer structure would use a brief overview, then group the activities by trend—for example, the sharp rise in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics—and use simple links such as “By contrast” and “Meanwhile.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response attempts some topic-related vocabulary, including “graph,” “participants,” “sports” and “number,” so the general subject is partly recognisable. However, several choices are inaccurate or unclear for this chart: “diffrent intrest” suggests preferences rather than participant numbers, “cevil defence” does not identify martial arts, and “watch adult movies” is not a chart category. Spelling errors such as “diffrent,” “intrest” and “sudenly” also reduce clarity. The vocabulary range is limited, and some phrases do not communicate the intended activity reliably. Use the exact category labels and standard trend language, such as “the number of participants,” “rose sharply,” “declined steadily” and “remained relatively stable.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response uses simple sentence forms, and the opening attempt to introduce the graph is understandable in broad terms. However, grammatical control is uneven. “This graph is showing” uses an unnecessarily progressive form for describing a chart, while “The graph of sports almost same” is missing a verb and an article; a clearer form would be “The number of participants in martial arts remained almost the same.” The final phrase, “touch number 17% to 6,” lacks a clear grammatical relationship and does not form a complete, precise comparison. The response shows little variety in sentence structure. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and accurate past-tense reporting, and use a structure such as “Amateur dramatics fell from about 28 participants to 6.”
