Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the five activities and give a broad overview of the main patterns: film club remains the most popular, amateur dramatics declines, and table tennis and musical performances rise. Several details are also broadly accurate, including table tennis reaching about 53–54 participants and musical performances starting at zero. However, some figures and comparisons are inaccurate: film club begins at about 64, not 66, and ends at about 66, not 68; martial arts fluctuates around 32–38 rather than ending at 39; and amateur dramatics rises only to about 28 in 2005 before falling to 6, not 29 to 7. The overview also says table tennis was “still same in few years,” which does not clearly capture its strong later growth. More precise reporting would make the key features clearer.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph giving details about the activities. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore,” and “Moreover” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression within the overview is difficult to follow because several trends are compressed into one sentence, and the detailed paragraph moves rapidly from one series to another without clear grouping. Some links are also awkward or unclear, such as “although amateur decrease participants with a passage of time” and “martial arts playing zigzag rule.” Organise the information into clearer comparisons—for example, stable or fluctuating activities together, then the rising and falling trends—and use simpler, more precise transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “decline,” “increase gradually,” and “rose sharply,” so the reader can identify the general trends you intend to describe. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear. “Film fest” does not match the chart’s “film club,” while “playing zigzag rule” and “direct on 60 volunteers” make the meaning difficult to understand. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “diffrent,” “tenis,” “ramain,” and “slighlty.” Aim for accurate activity names and standard trend language, such as “fluctuated,” “remained stable,” and “reached,” rather than repeating “increase” and “rose.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the response is generally recognisable as a description of the graph. However, sentence structures are often faulty, particularly when several trends are joined together. For example, “Overall, there are the five activities first was film fest…” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “film club in 2000 only 66 participants but decline…” omits necessary verbs and articles. Verb forms and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “amateur decrease” and “musical performances in 2000 does not had.” These errors frequently make relationships between ideas hard to follow. Practise complete subject–verb sentences, consistent past-tense reporting, and accurate use of articles and prepositions; then check punctuation so each sentence expresses one clear comparison.
