Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several relevant overall patterns: the film club remains the most popular activity, amateur dramatics declines, and table tennis rises substantially. However, the account is only partly accurate and some key comparisons are unclear. Film club did not remain the same throughout; it dipped slightly before rising to about 66. Table tennis did not surpass martial arts in 2010: it reached about 20, while martial arts was around 38, and it overtook martial arts only by 2020. The claim that amateur dramatics and table tennis met in 2010 is also inaccurate. Musical performances began rising after 2005, rather than showing an upward trend in 2005 itself. A clearer overview and more reliable selection of comparisons would make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, beginning with an introduction and an overview before moving to details, and it uses linking expressions such as “Overall,” “However,” and “In contrast.” This gives the reader some sense of how the information is being compared. However, progression is not consistently clear: the discussion jumps between activities and years, and several statements repeat or conflict with earlier ones, such as describing film club as both unchanged and showing an upward trend. Some connectors are used awkwardly, including “Although” at the start of a sentence without a following main clause. Grouping the rising activities together and the declining or fluctuating ones together, with comparisons in chronological order, would create a clearer progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary relevant to describing charts, including “declined,” “fluctuated,” “upward trend,” “surpassed,” and “diverge.” These choices show awareness of the language needed for data reporting. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the intended meaning difficult to follow: “highest rating” is not suitable for participant numbers, “began to converge” does not clearly describe the figures, and “minimal increase” understates the rise in table tennis. There are also word-form and spelling problems, such as “marge” and “participant” where a plural is needed. Prefer precise, familiar chart language and check that each verb accurately describes the trend shown.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses and time references, but control is inconsistent. Errors occur in basic sentence construction and verb forms, for example “the number of participants how taken part” and “participants were began to converge.” The sentence beginning “Although, there was upward trend” is incomplete in its use of a subordinating conjunction, while “film club represented highest rating” is missing grammatical elements. Articles, agreement, and plural forms also need attention. These errors sometimes make relationships between the data difficult to understand. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then add one clear comparison or contrast clause, checking verb forms and articles in each sentence.
